It was a rainy day with a blustering storm (snow blowing on the screens for about 10 minutes). Big thunder and more rain, many parts of Peterborough were out of business this afternoon with no power - stoplights were out and many drivers had a problem with who goes next. Fall is definitely in the air. Despite the high winds we still have leaves on the trees and they are lovely.

Saturday night means hockey in Toronto at The Air Canada Centre for Maple Leaf action....tickets are available if you are hoping to catch excitement on the ice.
Congratulations to Nancy and David Stillman, married at the Resort Saturday evening.Hopefully someone will send me a photo to post here.

We are very proud of our own Wilma Anderson, Guest Service Manager, who was recently named one of three finalists from across Canada as "Employee of the Year" by the Tourism Industry Association of Canada. The awards gala will take place in Saint John, New Brunswick in early November - we all wish Wilma the very best at the awards, however, many of our guests over the years believe Wilma is a clear winner already.

A little rain and some sunshine equals wonderful autumn colours, and it's just beginning. Book a flight and see the bright colours of nature in their best light.

On the ground the palette is just as beautiful. There's still time to getaway for a weekend and enjoy walking in the woods.
It was a muggy day in Southern Ontario - I attended a Mickey Mouse seminar (no, really). It was a magical day at the DeGroote School of Business/McMaster University Seminar featuring speakers from the Disney Institute, introducing Disney's approach to Business Excellence. Learned alot, laughed alot and met some very interesting people - some had never been to the Resort - imagine! Hopefully the families who come to Rice Lake have created a base for future visits and lots of good memories. The magic is in sharing your experience here with the next generation.

As we were flying over Hwy 400 on Sunday I felt badly for the cars below, crawling home in the traffic. The fall colours were lovely from the air.

The air traffic was colourful and plentiful on the resort runway - it was a super flying day - good spot for a stop, a visit and Sunday Brunch.

Early morning dew in the woods made me feel I was in a rainforest...you could see the drops falling. The sun was trying to burn through the fog and it was magical.

It's a beautiful Sunday morning and the colours are starting to dazzle. This is a great time of year to take a few days of "me and nature" time.

The turkeys continue to grow and gobble on their way to Thanksgiving dinner. Have you made your holiday weekend arrangements yet? Limited cottage space available (book very soon or you'll miss out) and some dining room reservations still up for grabs. Why do the work yourself when you can invite the family to a catered affair - no dishes, more time for the usual siesta after eating turkey.

Save space on your calendar for the Wild Womens Weekend Nov 13-15 (designed for women only.....girls, you need a break after hunting season) and the Winemakers Weekend Nov 20-22 (full weekend of wine tasting and good food).....call and book your cottage today!

Donald and the Ducks were doing some take-offs and landings in the bay today....I did notice they always fly southward, for practise. It's hard to think of autumn with the weather we've seen....wild women and winemakers weekends are scheduled for November.

Happy 8th Birthday Ryder Elmhirst - seen here celebrating at the after-party in the Wild Blue Yonder with sister Nadiya and friend Mary - Ryder had his guy friends for the real party in the afternoon.

Hail to the 4 W's (Wild Wicked Womens Weekend) who are visiting this weekend - their 31st get together. There was mischief in their eyes and lots of laughter....what a group!

Several reunions on property this weekend....all groups seem to be co-existing nicely.
Have you booked your family reunion yet?

Imagine how cool the wooded walking trails were during the heat of the day....there are several marked trails on the resort property, through forests, across fields, through thickets and up hills where the view is worth the climb! In winter these trails become cross country ski trails....for those who seek even ground there is always a marked path on the frozen lake. Have you booked Homecoming Weekend? This first weekend of the new year offers great value with meals and activities...to be eligible you must be a past guest.

The golf course has been very busy this week....get a game in before lunch, enjoy poutine on the patio, go horseback riding or take a fall colour tour by air before dinner.....or just relax on your dock with a good book or fishing rod.....so much to do, so little time!

Wednesday, September 9, 2009

The horses had a day off from trail riding so they met for lunch and grazed the afternoon away.

The maples are starting to change colour - the view from the air is spectacular - several planes and a helicopter stopped in as the weather couldn't be better for flying. Come out for lunch and a sightseeing flight - don't forget your camera.

What an exciting day for Stephen Elmhirst who took a break from the kitchen to attend driving school at Shannonville Motorsport Park. Lots of leaning in the turns.
Dad Peter was also pretty excited just watching the driving skills put to the test on the track. Delighted to say rider and spectator returned home safe and sound, with a better appreciation of the sport.

Tomorrow school starts...little Nadiya is very excited....there's only so much fun a kid can take!

Yet another gorgeous day on Rice Lake...the waterfront was busy with waterskiers and tubing, kayaks and canoes, peddleboats and boaters. Last hurrah so to speak.

These ducks were hiding under a low hanging tree off shore....too much activity for some.

Happy 91st Birthday to a very young MaryBelle Elmhirst, matriarch of the Elmhirst family.
Congratulations to Ferne & Gerry Anderson who celebrated their 60th Anniversary with friend Ronald MacKay at the Friday Night Supper Club in the Wild Blue Yonder.
Happy 90th Birthday to both Lucy & Roy Legassicke of Keene. Roy has been a greeter at the Resort for many years.

It was a lovely evening on the outdoor patio. The English family and friends wanted to make the most of the pleasant weather, enjoying the sunset over dinner. It's going to be a super September weekend. Wish you were here!
Cruising by the resort this week you would have seen families fishing off their docks, waterski activity, airplanes landing, guests reading and enjoying the amazing weather. The fiery red sunrises and the full moon on the water have been spectacular - if you're not here, you don't know what you're missing. The Labour Day Weekend forecast promises more of the same!

Blue skies and sunshine were the order of the day! I just couldn't help taking these photos of a professional photographer taking a photo of the aircraft landing and taking off.
